Mio starts out life as a baby abandoned on the steps of a child care institute. He is found in a basket with a white blanket by Eva Armstrong, who gives him his name of Mio Yamanobe. Eva ends up more or less adopting Mio despite only being in middle school. Although it was hard work for Eva, Mio grows up adoring him and they have an enjoyable life together. Eventually, Eva is given a job as the tutor of a rich businessman's son. This son is Ban Jumonji, who becomes the third member of their makeshift little family (although Mio believes that just him and Eva would be fine).

The three of them are later invited to Etoile Vio academy, where they will train to become idols. They form the unit RE:BERSERK. Mio appears with Eva and Ban in Chapter 14 of the Main Story, where Eva has taken an interest in the unit F∞F's member Kanata Minato. Mio doesn't really have a lot to do with this, aside from praising Eva and going along with whatever he wishes. Kanata and his unitmates do not want him to join RE:BERSERK, but Eva is insistent. It becomes something of a contest, then. If any member of F∞F fails their upcoming exam, Kanata will join them. Mio continues to practice for their own upcoming performances and cheers Eva's challenge on, even though he doesn't want any other members because that ups the chance of taking Eva away from him.

During an autograph session, F∞F visits RE:BERSERK and observes them to learn how to do an autograph session themselves. Mio even agrees to showing them how it's done, and suggests at the end that he and Eva and Ban give F∞F autographs with their leftover cardboard. Overall it's an amicable meeting, despite the competition brewing between them. Seiya, the leader of F∞F, then asks if he can attend their live the next day and wins Eva over with compliments. When they arrive, they're very impressed with the stage, which was mostly put together by Eva. This prompts the producer to praise Eva as well, and then Eva explains his and Mio's roots to the group. Mio tells them that he has never explained this to anyone before, and says he will curse them if anything happens to Eva because of it.

In the end, F∞F does not fail their exams and Kanata remains in his own group. That doesn't stop Eva from wanting him to be his "third servant", but Mio is most likely glad it's over for now. They then have to worry because the Producer has been tasked with sending one group to perform at the Music Awards for the programs' tenth anniversary. Mio, Ban, and Eva work very hard to be the chosen ones, but Producer instead makes a very large group called I☆CHU! instead! They all perform together, to the confusion and exasperation of the music host, and that is the season's end.

The next season begins with rumors of underground idols. Eva wants to investigate and tells Mio and Ban that they're to go on a reconnaissance mission. However, before it takes off, the Producer and F∞F show up with the same curiosity. They decide to all check it out together.

PERSONALITY: Mio is chuunibyou, which basically means he is rather eccentric. It's a type of personality common in middle schoolers, who exaggerate their existence by making up stories of magic or other extreme things. He calls himself Death Chronos and seems to live in a fantasy world of darkness, mystery, and magic. Though Mio is at the tail end of middle school/his first year of high school, it's very likely that he'll remain chuuni thanks to Eva Armstrong's influence.

Mio is a practitioner and believer of black magic. He can incorporate it in everything he does. He began practicing at a very young age, at least 7 if not sooner, and believes that it actually works, although it mostly seems to work due to coincidence. He will always threaten others with black magic if they upset him in any way, but also uses it for good. He uses it for everything. It is a key part of his chuunibyou-ism and his personality, as he will always have an excuse to talk about black magic.

Despite being so eccentric, Mio is actually quite a serious young man. That's not to say he doesn't smile and laugh, because he does that quite often. But he has stated himself that he doesn't like to joke around. When he says something, he means it, and that's that. He takes his training as both an idol and Eva's servant very seriously and won't stand for anyone trying to put him, his unit, or his Master down. He works hard on his own to perfect his performance as an idol. This is not only because he believes in what RE:BERSERK stands for but because he doesn't want to embarrass the rest of the unit (mostly Eva) by doing poorly or even half-heartedly. He doesn't seem like it at first, but he's a very determined individual and very hard to knock down.

When he's around Eva, he plays the part of a dutiful child, although Eva seems to be unaware of this. When Eva is not around, Mio's personality changes a little. It's especially different around Ban, whom he calls trash and always tries to destroy with black magic. He's very sweet and compliant around Eva, but not so much around everyone else. In fact, he can be pretty hard to get along with, as even the smallest thing can seem to offend him. That isn't to say he's always a brat or has a bad personality. There's just a wall that needs cracking first. It's a difficult wall to break down, because he doesn't open up easily and hardly ever steps out of the fantasy world he lives in.

When he's truly enjoying himself and those walls go down, he's much happier and really seems to enjoy being around other people -- as long as those people don't threaten to take Eva away from him. When he's not being hostile, he's bubbly and cute, and he knows it too. You could say he's a little vain, but it doesn't come off as snooty really. It just plays into his cuteness. When he's closer to people, his rough edges go away (except for Ban) and he is softer and more agreeable. Before he's close to anyone, he can seem very one-dimensional, prickly, and disagreeable. He seems to have a one-track mind until you really get to know him and his motivations, which are more than meets the eye. Everything is for Eva-sama, sure, but he also has his own hopes and dreams, which he will reveal to you if you are special enough.

As if it hasn't been mentioned enough in this section, Mio has a very, very strong relationship with Eva. His thoughts and actions all seem to revolve around his fellow band member, or his "Master". Everything he does is for Eva's happiness and approval, and if anyone threatens to take his place or take Eva away from him, Mio gets extremely upset. His greatest fear is no doubt being abandoned by the one person who's raised and loved him for all of his life. Eva raised him and he loves him like a father, and sometimes something more (It's weird and complicated). Their bond is unbreakable (despite Mio's worries) and Eva will always come first on Mio's agenda, regardless of how his feelings for anyone else may grow and change.

POWERS: Mio actually has no powers, despite being a believer and practitioner of black magic.

ACCLIMATION: 8. Being chuunibyou, Mio is well versed with the idea of jumping into another world and other such mysticisms (even if it's make believe) Points are subtracted because it's actually real world hopping and that's a shocker. The real reason it's so high though is because Eva is present. With his Master there, he can and will adapt to anything.
